Israel's New Coalition Government: What it Means for Israel's Present & Future

A Conversation with Elisheva Goldberg, Director of Media and Policy at the New Israel Fund
Wednesday, June 23, 7:30PM
Hosted by SAJ-Judaism that Stands for All, and welcome to all

We are witnessing a seismic shift in the Israeli political landscape as Benjamin Netanyahu leaves power after 12 years as Prime Minister, as Netanyahu is replaced by a diverse coalition with disparate interests. What does it all mean? What does it mean for Naftali Bennett, a person with extreme views on a range of issues -- including the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the status of Israel's Palestinian citizens, and refugees and asylum seekers -- to become Prime Minister? What does it mean that he will be in coalition with center and center-left leaders? And for the first time in history, Israel’s Palestinian citizens will be in the Israeli government, through the small United Arab List Party. What does all this mean for prospects for a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict? And for domestic issues like housing, religious rights, LGBTQ rights, the vision for shared society and more?

Join us for a briefing and conversation with Elisheva Goldberg, the New Israel Fund’s Director of Media and Policy. She formerly served as a parliamentary advisor to then co-leader of the opposition and former Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni. She has also worked at the progressive think tank Molad: The Center for The Renewal of Israeli Democracy, and as an assistant editor at Peter Beinart’s Daily Beast blog, Open Zion. She has written for The Daily Beast, The Forward and The Atlantic, and is currently a contributing writer at Jewish Currents.
