About Us

From the day of our founding, the SAJ has been at the forefront of one of the great questions of our time: Is it possible to lead a meaningful life in the modern world?

Our answer is a resounding “Yes!” Today, in the spirit of our founder, Rabbi Mordecai M. Kaplan, we come together as a community that believes it’s possible to engage in a life that is deeply rooted in both Jewish tradition and contemporary civilization. Judaism helps us find meaning and inspiration as we establish and enrich our commitment to spiritual growth, social justice, and caring for one another. We welcome the richness of our diversity as we learn about, struggle with, and even question our Judaism — as we continue to “reconstruct” it for our times.

We invite you to visit us, explore the full range of the SAJ experience, and consider becoming a part of our community.

The SAJ is affiliated with the Reconstructionist movement.
