Do the words “Yiddish” or “mameloshn” (mother-tongue) evoke a long-ago memory – a sound, a scent, a taste, a near-forgotten melody? If so, the monthly get-togethers of this group are the place for you.

Whether you speak Yiddish with native fluency, just a few words and expressions, or even not at all, Yiddish in Song and Story is a bridge that will connect you to your roots.

The Yiddish songs you will hear and/or sing may have familiar melodies, but perhaps you don't know or understand the words. For many of these songs we have a “singable” English translation. The stories, often drawn from the giants of Yiddish literature, are given a “dramatic reading” in Yiddish (so as to retain the original flavor) but with a simultaneous English translation. In that way everyone can understand and appreciate what’s happening!

Yiddish in Song and Story is not a language class, though inevitably you will learn some Yiddish! It’s for having fun while traveling back to a time and place forever remembered in words and music.
