On Saturday, February 6, the Social Concerns Committee invites the SAJ community to its annual Kiddush luncheon following services. Guest Speaker, Marc Greenberg, Executive Director of the Interfaith Assembly on Homelessness and Housing, will discuss "Beyond Shelter: Combating Homelessness in our Backyard" speaks at 1:15PM.

The program is dedicated to the memory of Anne Meyer, longstanding chair of the SAJ Social Concerns Committee and tireless worker in the struggle against homelessness.

Intergenerational Community Supper in the Sukkah

Join other SAJ members and Hebrew School families for a Community Supper in the Sukkah. This is an informal chance to enjoy the beautiful sukkah decorated by our Hebrew School students, while mingling with old friends and meeting new ones.
You bring a picnic dairy or pareve meal, and SAJ provides the drinks and desserts. Tuesday, October 6, 6:30PM.

Helping the Stranger: What's Our Obligation?

Two speakers from the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS) spoke on the topic “Religious Responses to Illegal Immigration and Initiatives for Reform” at the well-attended Social Concerns luncheon last Shabbat, February 5.

Founded in 1881 to help Jewish immigrants, HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) has since then assisted more than 4.5 million people worldwide, including thousands of Soviet Jews who came to the U.S. in the 1970s and 1980s.

The first speaker, CEO Gideon Aronoff, outlined five Jewish bases for HIAS’s work in helping Jewish and non-Jewish immigrants as well as in supporting “fair and compassionate immigration laws.”  Read more»
