Wednesday March 20th, starting at 4:45PM

On March 20th, our SAJ Purim activities include

4:45PM - Stamping out hate by stamping out the name of Haman outside the entrance to the SAJ.

5:00PM - Purim Carnival

6:00PM - Pizza Dinner in the Social Hall; Wine and Cheese in the Lobby

6:30PM - The Muppet Shpiel

7:00PM - Megillah reading - geared for adults and older children (ages 9 and up), though all are welcome to attend.

All who attend receive Hamantashen and a Mishloach Manot bag (One per family)

There are several traditions associated with Purim, including reading the megillah (the scroll containing the book of Esther), dressing up in costumes, engaging in some "l'chaims," (to fulfill the commandment of not knowing the difference between Haman and Mordecai), and giving charity.

There is also a wonderful tradition, as old as the book of Esther, of Mishloach Manot--sending gift baskets to friends. By giving these baskets, we show appreciation for our friends and community members.

At SAJ, Mishloach Manot offers us the opportunity to do two of the four mitzvot of Purim at one time – sending gifts to friends and giving charity. Our Mishloach Manot program is a fundraiser for Pela and Makom, our family education program. All money we raise will be used to sustain the program and keep it financially accessible through scholarships. These funds are especially needed as we continue to grow our programs for children -- newborns through teens -- and their families.
